EVENT: Public Galleries and Local Government – Success Through Collaboration
DATE:
20 May 2013

With Bendigo Art Gallery attracting record visitation from across Victoria and interstate through its international exhibition program, many Councils are asking their galleries to replicate this success and “do a Bendigo”. But Bendigo Art Gallery’s success was ten years in the planning. Not only did it require substantial investment from their community, the outcomes are the result of the gallery team working with colleagues across departments and with the support of all levels of local government.

In this the first PGAV Quarterly Forum we brought together senior figures from the Bendigo Art Gallery and the City of Greater Bendigo to reveal the high level of collaboration and advocacy which led to the sustained success of Bendigo Art Gallery.

Presenters:

Karen Quinlan, Director, Bendigo Art Gallery

Kathryn Mackenzie, Manager Tourism, City of Greater Bendigo

Stan Liacos, Director City Futures, City of Greater Bendigo

Rod Fyffe, Councillor and Former Mayor, City of Greater Bendigo
