Kate Rohde is a sculptor, jeweller and designer based in Melbourne. Her practise has encompassed a wide range of synthetic materials to re-imagine the natural world. Often inspired by museum displays and specimens, her works are a playful explosion of colour. For Striking a rich vein, she turns her attention to the world of geology and minerals.
In comparison to the extremely slow, chance nature in which real minerals are made, Rohde explores and experiments with fast acting media such as resin to imitate crystals and gems with almost instant results. Presented in a maximal style reminiscent of a historical wunderkammer, Rohde immerses us in a strange world of curious imaginary specimens and glowing grottos.
