Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA)
Monash University Museum of Art | MUMA is committed to innovative, experimental and research-based contemporary art and curatorial practice. With a focus upon contemporary art since the 1960s, MUMA seeks to establish the museum as a dynamic site for cultural production, pedagogy and participation – through exhibitions, collection development, curatorial research, publishing, and academic and community engagement.

With a vision to become an international centre of excellence in the research and collection, promotion and presentation of contemporary visual art, MUMA is adventurous and forward-looking in its support of new art and ideas.

Permanent Collection
The Monash University Collection is a leading representation of contemporary Australian art from the 1960s to the present. It includes a diverse range of media from painting, sculpture and photography to video, installation and new media.

The collection encompasses more than 2000 works, which chart a period of dynamic change from the medium-specific perceptual and formal experiments of late modernism to an expanded field of cultural reference inaugurated by pop, minimal, conceptual and performance art.

Works are regularly lent to museums and galleries nationally and internationally, and are also on public display on all Monash University’s Victorian campuses. MUMA’s rich exhibition program also draws actively on the collection.

The collection continues to represent new artistic tendencies as they develop with a sustained commitment to the support of innovation and excellence in contemporary Australian art.
