Wangaratta Art Gallery
Located in the Arts and Culture Precinct the Gallery offers an engaging and comprehensive program of self-curated and touring exhibitions including contemporary and historic visual art, craft and design.

The Gallery’s textiles focus is consolidated through the celebrated ‘Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award’ biennial which is due to be presented next in 2015. The WCTA is currently the pre-eminent award made available to artists working in textile media within Australia.

Education and public programs, including lectures, workshops, wine & cheese nights and ‘Art Lovers’ talks are aligned with the exhibitions program.  Kids art classes and youth initiatives are also a regular feature.


Permanent Collection
The collection - initiated and established in 2004 - features contemporary art, textile art, small sculpture, art about the north east region of Victoria and art by significant artists resident in the north east region.

Highlights of the collection include major donations through the Federal Government’s Cultural Gifts Program by artists: Judy Cassab, Andrew Christofides, Aida Tomescu, Dani Marti, Savandhary Vongpoothorn and Ivan Durrant.

Other artists included in the collection are: Kim Westcott, Robert Hirschmann, Paul Yore, Tim Gresham, Cecelia Heffer, Liz Williamson, Lorraine Connelly Northey, Robert Baines, Trehanna Hamm, Arlene Texta Queen, Ian Westacott, Jo Davenport, Amanda Ho and Glenn Sloggett amongst others.


Cafe & Gift Shop
Gallery Intermezzo Café
Open 7 days a week, 8am – 5pm.

Situated adjacent to the Gallery Intermezzo Café offers a casual but exciting indoor/outdoor dining experience and is a perfect venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu has a diverse range of fresh, seasonal local produce, fine wines and boutique beers & ciders.

The Gallery Shop
Located in the entry foyer, The Gallery Shop offers fine art, prints and craft(ceramics, metal, jewellery and textiles) in addition to postcards, art cards and other unique design objects and merchandise.


Getting to the Gallery
By Train 

V-line trains run from Southern Cross station to Wangaratta Railway Station. For timetables: The XPT (Express Passenger Train) also runs regularly northbound and southbound stopping at Wangaratta. For timetables and bookings:

By Car 
Access via Hume Freeway (252 Kilometres - 2 hours and 45 minutes from Melbourne) take Wangaratta exit, after 5-6 Kilometres turn off Tone Road (old Hume Highway) into Ovens Street. Gallery located at 56 Ovens Street (next to WPAC). Parking available in rear car park (3hr limit) or in street (2hr limit).
